To mark World Press Freedom Day (May 3), the 4th Evening High School of Mytilene hosted an online event titled “Right to Know – Right to Speak”, highlighting youth engagement with democracy and human rights. The event took place within the framework of the “Schools as Ambassadors of the European Parliament” program.
As part of the event, the Future Integrity Leaders (FIL) project was presented, focusing on how it empowers students to become advocates for truth, transparency, and accountability. The initiative promotes active citizenship and critical thinking as essential tools for defending democracy and press freedom.
Guest speakers included Aristeidis Danikas (Liberty of Speech), Tasos Morfis (Qurio), and Vassilis Stamatopoulos (Fraud Line), who spoke about the global threats facing journalism today and emphasized the importance of supporting independent and ethical reporting.
The event concluded with an open dialogue among students and teachers, reinforcing the belief that press freedom is essential to a healthy democracy, and that young people must play an active role in safeguarding it.
